The Ultimate Cooling Solution - HVAC and HVLS

Cold-Storage facilities have some of the highest operating energy costs in the warehousing industry. This is of course due to the fact that certain products need to be kept within a temperature range. Having dealt with many companies in a similar situation, we have come up with the ultimate cooling solution.

Combining High Volume, Low Speed (HVLS) fans with a pre-existing HVAC system has proven to be a successful energy efficiency strategy. We have seen energy savings of up to 30%, without sacrificing the overall temperature requirements of the facility. The idea behind our energy saving success is to increase the temperature of the HVAC system by 1-3 degrees, by offloading some of the cooling work to the fans.

The size of our fans allows for the air to be evenly distributed, putting less pressure on the HVAC system. This combination can give a perceived cooling effect of up to 6 degrees. We’ve run the stats; and for every degree higher that the thermostat is set, there is an energy saving of 6-9%.

In a recent project we did with Darwin International Airport, Big Ass Fans installed 10 Essence HVLS fans in the foyer, which resulted in a significant reduction in energy use. The airport was able to increase the air conditioning ther

mostat set point by 2°C, resulting in an energy saving of 203 MWh per year. In monetary terms, this came to a total yearly saving of $57,000. While ceiling fans still consume energy, HVAC energy savings are significantly greater than the energy cost of the ceiling fans.
